– EMI wins battle for DVD rights to Live 8 concerts: EMI has scored a coup over rival music companies by securing the DVD rights to this weekend’s Live 8 concerts after agreeing to pay several million pounds upfront to the event’s organisers. Also, AOL will pay about $5.5 million as an official sponsor and will transmit the concerts over the internet.
– Universal Increasing DVD Flow: Universal Music Group has had a burst of activity in the video arena this month, pacting with BBC Worldwide to exploit BBC archive content on DVD and video download product and with EMI Music Publishing for music content to be used in video-on-demand, DualDisc and other platforms.
– Microsoft Market DVD Hi-Def: Microsoft has been walking a fine line between encouraging use and adoption of the format, and not wanting to appear to be competing with either Blu-ray or HD DVD
– Downloads land at Video Island: U.K. online DVD rental service Video Island said Thursday that it has pacted with digital specialists Mobix Interactive and iFilm to speed its move into movie and ringtone downloads.
