Some Australian universities are considering providing recordings of lectures in a format suitable for mobile phones. “Flinders University manager of multimedia Kevin Knox said students were inquiring about virtual attendance on mobile phones and predicted the institution would implement the technology within 12 months.”
The main problem would be the size of the files, especially if someone had a mobile plan that didn’t include unlimited downloads. Not everyone is convinced of the usefulness, either…University of SA’s director of flexible learning Professor Bruce King said if students demanded the technology it would be made available, but there were better ways of viewing a missed lecture. “It’s (watching a lecture on mobile phones) a very poor way of getting across the content and learning activities to students,” he said.
