Rediff.com: India has the potential to become a major hub for outsourcing computer games, according to Quentin Staes-Polet, digital media executive, IBM Global Services. “Indian developers have the capability of turning the region into a major outsourcing hub for the development of computer games,” he said in Mumbai on Thursday.
India is a late entrant into this sector and there are no big Indian players in the computer games development market, an analyst said adding, the $9 billion online gaming market is helping drive global bandwidth growth. Sates-Polet said, “The growth of online games is driving the bandwidth growth globally. With the number of online players increasing exponentially the broadband penetration globally has gone up from 82 million to 320 million.”
He said online gaming would be a $31.4 billion market by 2008 and would play a big part in increasing broadband penetration globally. Speaking about the usage of online games, he said they could be used as a teaching and training tool by various government agencies, including the military.
