A number of media outlets and web sites have a chance to do good for themselves at the same time as they support the July 2 global Live 8 campaign/concert/protest. AOL has been open about the synergy between its acquisition of the U.S. & Canada media rights and the launch of its own web portal. Now Technorati, which just unveiled its redesign, has set up a Live 8 microsite (at the suggestion of political strategist Joe Trippi) with relevant blog posts aggregated as they flow in, Technorati tags and contact info for the G8 leaders. (The page also has a Google Ads sidebar.) Combining social effort and branding can be a fine line, though — the Technorati badges people are being urged to put on their sites “to show their support for Live 8″ are all about the company and there’s a lot more education on the microsite about Technorati and blogging then the issues behind Live 8.
