Working on an earlier post, I typed in Live8.com and wound up at the site of a mobile news service that could reap some benefits from the attention being paid to the July 8 global concert project of the same name. Michigan-based Live8.com is a WAP news service that launched in 2002 as an offshoot of 24 Hour News 8, a Grand Rapids TV station. The site carries an announcement that Wood TV8 owns the domain name http://www.live8.com and “will be sharing it with the concert LIVE 8 until July 10, 2005.” The site also carries links to concert site Live8Live.com. WAP users see a screen offering access to the news site or the concert site.
It’s a good example of how everyone involved in a possible domain conflict can come out ahead. Of course, not many of those getting the news site will be in its target audience but it should be a profile raiser.
