Sonus Set To Expand India Operations

Boston Business Journal: Sonus Networks Inc. has hired 30 employees to ramp up its India development facility. It also plans to double its work force in Bangalore by the end of the year. The US-based company produces systems to manage voice-over-Internet-protocol systems.
Its Indian employees worked on Sonus’ new IMX application platform, which allows VoIP companies to create new services such as ring-back tones or video-mail. Sonus, which has more than 500 employees on its rolls, ex[ects its India employee base to swell to 100 by the close of next year, Sonus vice president Simon Naylor told Cyber India Online Ltd, driven by demand for new applications by VoIP providers.
In the first quarter, the Nasdaq-listed Sonus reported a $3.7 million loss on $33.6 million in revenue. Earlier this month, an online trade publication called Light Reading said Sonus will supply BellSouth Corp. with gear for its new VoIP service. BellSouth already uses Sonus equipment to offload dial-up Internet traffic from circuit switches.
