AT NAA’s Mid Year Review, newspaper congolms had strong growth in Q1 and Q2 online ad revenues. Online advertising, while still relatively small compared to total revenues, was a bright spot for several publishers. Knight Ridder. reported a 54 percent rise in online revenues in the year to date through May, and Journal Register Co., publisher of the New Haven Register, said it expects online revenue to grow about 45 percent to $9 million this year.
Ad revenue has surged 30% to date in 2005 on NYTimes.com, which has been able to increase rates several times in the past 12 months.
On the whole, many investors remain lukewarm on newspaper stocks given their challenges in losing audience to the Internet etc…
