Viacom Buys Neopets; WeeMee Next?

Viacom, parent of MTV, has bought out online and mobile avatar/animated charcater and pets company Neopets, for a reported sum of $160 million. I wonder what the company will do to with its mobile strategy. Neopets was working with mobile publisher In-Fusio, according to this story. Their upcoming wireless-to-Web app links to the Web site where players can look after their pet as well as access exclusive content that will be available only to cell phone subscribers. But the mobile app offers more than a window into the Neopets ecosystem and economy; In-Fusio is juicing it with a few cute mini-games. On a related note, I had heard some rumors last week about Yahoo buying the company (the logic being it would have integrated it with IM and mobile)…anyway, I do have it from sources that Yahoo was looking at it. Another company Yahoo has had meetings with is Saw-You, the company behind the WeeMee avatars….we’ll see what comes out of that.
