As we reported yesterday, Neopets, the online and mobile avatar/animated charcater and pets company, has been bought out by Viacom (well, technically MTV Networks). The main reason, though hidden in the official reasoning, is to integrate it with company’s Nick.com. But I expect it to be run by the MTV’s wireless group…Neoets is a sleeping giant waiting to happen on the mobiles.
Neopets was working with mobile publisher In-Fusio, according to this story. Their upcoming wireless-to-Web app links to the website where players can look after their pet as well as access exclusive content that will be available only to cell phone subscribers.
But the mobile app offers more than a window into the Neopets ecosystem and economy; In-Fusio is juicing it with a few cute mini-games. And to further leverage the Neopets deal, In-Fusio has also entered into a sub-licensing agreement with Netsize to develop additional downloadable Neopets content including wallpapers, ring tones and animated sequences.
