Japan’s KDDI has announced that November 19 last year and June 15 this year it sold 10 million full-track songs via its EZ “Chaku-Uta Full” service. The service uses Coding Technologies MPEG-4 aacPlus format and has 30,000 tracks available…and is now reportadely selling 2 million tracks per month.
“Tracks on EZ “Chaku-Uta Full” cost approximately 300 Yen. Listeners can preview songs for free and then purchase them for direct download to their mobile handset. Tracks can also be moved to removable memory cards on enabled handsets to increase the size of the listener’s library. In addition to general listening, downloaded tracks can also be set as ring tones on the user’s phone.”
Last week Hutchison revealed it had sold 30 million 3G music downloads or streams worldwide, but that included a lot more categories than the Chaku-Uta Full service.
