Europe And The US Can Learn From Japanese Mobile Model

It’s long been recognised that in terms of mobile technology and content Japan (and South Korea) are way ahead of the pack. There’s plenty that Europe and North America can learn from the Asian nations, and this article outlines a few, focussing on NTT DoCoMo’s i-mode network…which is handy since DoCoMo is busy licensing it to telcos around the world.
“For the non-technical readers like myself, one of the most basic benefits of i-mode is that it provides a standardised technical approach for mobile services: from the transmission and display of content, to the billing mechanisms and even the handset design itself. Because of this standardisation, DoCoMo has been able to rapidly enrol imaginative content partners and build auxiliary services, while at the same time consumers have got to grips with the functionality faster than in other markets.”
