You certainly don’t hear the acronym MMS anymore…for good reason. It hasn’t really turned out to be the money spinner that SMS was. Surprisingly, a subsection of MMS, picture messaging, is doing well in U.S., but Europe is still languishing. In Asian, Chinese mobile content company Tom Online has stated publicly that MMS is a transitory business.
Overpromise, if you ask me.
According to the Mobile Media newsletter from Informa, T-Mobile Germany is among those wireless operators that will stop offering MMS alerts and greeting cards, claiming that such services are generating a few hundred euros in revenues per month.
Overall, it seems P2P messaging might be survive, but MMS as a media and rich content delivery will probably morph into something else…video and other interactive services.
