Over at sister site MocoNews.net, correspondent James Pearce followed up on the Napster-Ericsson news by interviewing Brad Duea, president of Napster. You can find the resulting news and analysis in full there …
From James: “The initial impression I had of the deal was confirmed by my talk: This is the best move of an online music service onto mobile phones that I’ve heard of, and is better than the iTunes/Motorola effort.” This deal isn’t limited to a single handset, although only those using Windows Media Player 10 will work, and it includes the operator in nearly every revenue stream.
Also, the deal gives Napster a major platform for international expansion. Says Duea, “We might be able to enter more markets faster on the mobile platform than we can on the PC platform.”
