@ MEM: Russell Simmons on MVNO Market

Russell Simmons, the founder of Def Jam and now the chairman, Rush Communications & Chairman, Def Jam Enterprises, gave the second day keynote at the MEM conference in London today. He talked a lot about the general hip-hop market and how important it is for his company (Def Jam Mobile…also one of the sponsors of this conference blog) to be in all the distribution methods possible, but I’ll write about that in detail later. After his speech, a bunch of us journalist met him separately and we asked him about the possibility of a Def Jam MVNO. He said he is very interested in the market, and has been looking at it very closely. He pointed out that his company Phat Farm has a line of Phat Phones which are fashion phones and all of them are doing very well. He also pointed out that the company has a close relationship with Motorola. He said he thinks Def Jame Mobile might not be the MVNO brand they go with if they decide to go that route.
And then right after our meeting ended, he had a meeting with all the senior opertor guys from the likes of Vodafone etc….
