BSkyB is working on a new ITV portal with a mix of web content adapted for ITV. Planned for a 2005 launch, the portal will be available to all UK and Ireland digital satellite viewers. Each household user can personalize the portal. Sky wants to stimulate ITV activity by making it easier for smaller organizations, not-for-profits and individuals to launch an ITV service based on their web content. No set-up fees but it looks like the marketing options will include some charges.
The new portal will complement the glossy Sky Active ITV portal launched late last fall.
NMA: The portal ultimately could help it to reduce the churn rate of digital satellite viewers.
