Beethoven Delivers More Than 600,000 Digital Downloads

The BBC reports more than 600,000 downloads of the first five Beethoven symphonies in its unprecedented Beethoven Experience. BBC exec Simon Nelson said the results are “astonishing.” Jupiter research director Mark Mulligan opted for “incredibly good,” adding “this shows that if you put high-quality content without a price point, people will go for it.”
The download experiment is aimed at expanding interest in both classical music and digital technology. The concerts are being aired first on BBC Radio 3, then made available for download as mp3 files for a week. The last four will air in order June 27-30. BBC Radio offers 11 podcasts but this is not being provided via RSS feed, which explains why I’m missing those first five downloads.
