On the heels of TimesSelect, as of June 20 Scotsman.com will leave most of the site open but a chunk of “unique and distinctive” content goes behind the garden wall of “Scotsman.com Premium.” The Scotsman is taking a two-pronged approach:
– For £29.95 annually, subscribers worldwide will have access to opinion, analysis, columnists, “professional” pages (law, education, etc.) and games. The price increases to £59.95 Sept. 1.
– Readers in Scotland who sign up by Aug. 31 can get a £19.95 quarterly subscription to the print edition, full access to the web site and a pass to the 1817-1950 digital archives.
GM Alistair Brown’s online message answers the “why” question: “The way people use and consume news media is changing and we have developed these services in order to meet this changing demand and to help ensure that we continue to thrive as a publishing organisation.”
