Of all the podcast deals I could imagine, this wasn’t even close to the list. AdAge reports that Apple will be the exclusive podcast distributor of content from The Sundance Channel, the premium cable network channel co-owned by Robert Redford, NBC Universal and Viacom’s Showtime. The barter deal — Sundance gets Apple’s post-production editing equipment and expertise, says AdAge — starts with “The Al Franken Show.” Video clips from the show will be streamed on Apple.com; a/v iTunes podcasts can’t be far behind.
As for content, to heck with Franken, how about a podcast series from Redford? He could grab a mike for 10-15 minutes a week or interview indie producers, writers, etc.
