At least nine international airlines are already offering Boeing’s Connexion in-air WiFi or have plans to within the year. Airlines looking for a new revenue stream are hoping customers will ignore the price tag — up to $29.95 for long hauls — and focus on the convenience factor.
In the U.S., United and Verizon have been cleared by the FAA to offer a similar service on some UAL flights and are waiting to hear from the FCC. Verizon claims its wireless broadband will be cheaper to install and more affordable for passengers.
