First it was SK Telecom buying a record label, now Korea’s dominant fixed-line carrier KT has also announced its intention to focus on content, establishing a consortium last month together with its subsidiaries like mobile carrier KTF and Internet firm KTH to “seek new content sources and find merger targets“.
Mike Masnick at The Feature isn’t too rapt in the approach, raising some issues that will face the telcos if they try to be in the content market longterm. He also admits that it seems to have worked for Korean telcos in the past where it hasn’t worked for others…
