CNET News opens the door a little further and speculates that Siemens, “the only company that has come close to matching Microsoft’s offering,” could wind up a winner if Microsoft missteps with IPTV. “Siemens competes head-to-head with Microsoft’s infrastructure partner Alcatel. A Siemens exec tells the news site its acquisition of IPTV software company Myrio gives it “the brains of its IPTV solution.” But analysts say the German company could have trouble tapping into North America, making Asia and Europe more likely targets. Add that to how far behind Siemens is with an actual all-in-one software solution and it’s still Microsoft’s game to lose.
