Extreme Sports MVNO To Launch in UK

Extreme Sports Channel in Britain is launching an MVNO, with network rented from Vodafone..this will be the first TV-related MVNO in UK. The new service, called ExtremeMob, will be a pre-pay mobile phone brand aimed at under the 24s and will launch in late July or early August and roll it out nationally in the autumn.
The group, which said it would jazz-up voice and text services with sports content from an online portal, will initially sell phones and mobile phone cards on its website before branching out into its 18 stores across the country.
This is not the first such deal in Europe: Orange, the mobile phone owned by France Telecom has signed up French TV channel M6. Extreme sports will also be available on Orange’s new UK mobile phone television service.
Ovum: Vodafone UK has previously been very anti-MVNO, and its deal with BT was viewed as an exception to its corporate wholesale strategy. This new MVNO deal with Extreme could signify a change of heart for Vodafone.
