Vikram Chachra has posted a comment in response to our post on Cisco (Cisco Looking At Acquisitions In India In The Wireless Space). He is wondering if the Indiagames investment is a strategic or financial investment for CISCO?
I think Cisco as well as Macromedia investment in Indiagames is strategic, not financial. Tom Online is the majority investor, which is the largest player in China, and they have brought in money as well as the size. I happened to talk to a top Indiagames exec the other day, and he was saying Cisco will help Indiagames gain capability in developing multiplayer games, while Macromedia will help in developing Flash-based games. Japan is a huge market for Flash-based games. Indiagames has a run rate of $1.2 million a month and is understood to be cash positive. It employs about 300 people, and intends to get into console and online games in a big way, straying from the current focus of mobile games (pls note, this is Indiagames’ future plan).
