Airborne Entertainment, the mobile entertainment content company based in Montreal, is up for sale, according to multiple sources I’ve spoken to. That it has been on the block for some time is no secret to the industry insiders, but the possible buyers list is emerging now: among them, Barry Diller’s IAC, Japanese mobile content firm Cybird, Korean company WiderThan (owned by SK Telecom), and Korean portal company Daum (it bought out Lycos US last year).
Broadview is representing Airborne in the sale, though the firm refused to comment on it.
Airborne has emerged as one of the few mobile content players dabbling in developing original content, as opposed to the slew of licensing shops. It has deals with the likes of HBO, Fox, NHL, Food Network, Donald Trump, Maxim, and Cosmo and develops and markets the services on their behalf.
The sale price range I’ve heard through sources is in the range of $60-$100 million, though I would be surprised if that price range is met….
