@ Digital Media Summit: Digital World of Sports

A panel at the Digital Media Summit about digital sports. A small debate broke out between George Kliavkoff, Senior VP at Major League Baseball Advanced Media, and Jeffrey Pollack, Managing Director at NASCAR Digital Entertainment about the ownership and approach of NAscar versus MLB, on the digital side. On Nascar side, it is all about licensing out the work to different companies (for example, Tuner handles Nascar’s online business), while for MLBAM it is about doing it themselves.

Vladimir Edelman, ESPN Mobile Publishing, Senior Director: The value of sports: it is really the original reality programming. But for us, people don’t buy delivery pipes, but they buy brands [he said that in relation to the rationale about ESPN entering the mobile/MVNO market].

George Kliavkoff: On blogs and podcasting: we see it as part of our overall of strategy. It is great for us as tool which draw people back.
