China Orders Blogs To Register With Government Or Face Shut Down

This may be why news that various entities are doing more online business in China leaves me a tad cold at times. China already has a registration rule for web sites; now the requirement is being extended to blogs. Private bloggers have to register the full identity of the person responsible for the blog. BBCi reports commercial publishers and advertisers who fail to register blogs and websites by June 30 could face fines up to one million yuan (roughly $120,000). The act of registering with the Ministry of Information doesn’t guarantee that the government will confer official status and the registration number required to continue publishing.
