The position: The Director of Sales will manage our advertising sales department and help plan new forms of advertising to better serve our current and future clients. This role will have the primary responsibility of managing and growing advertising sales revenue for Boston.com. The Director will do so by managing day-to-day sales activities of five sales reps and working closely with counterparts at the Boston Globe, NYTimes.com, and About.com.
Responsibilities and Areas of Accountability
– Strategic- We will look to you to develop and execute plans to bring new products to our advertisers, including behavioral and demographic targeting.
– Sales Management- You will manage the day-to-day sales activities of five sales reps and a sales support group. We will look to you to institute a disciplined sales process that includes prospecting and forecasting.
– Administrative- You will support the development of account-specific and category policies and strategies that make sound business sense for the team as well as the company, including pricing, position, promotion, contract compliance, sales process initiatives, and other account operation issues.
Leadership- You will be a high-profile leader in the industry and promote collaboration with other NYT properties.
Requirements
– College degree or equivalent experience.
– At least 8 years advertising sales experience and 3-5 years experience managing a sales staff.
– Experience within a new media or publishing environment is preferred.
– Excellent presentation, communication and selling skills.
– Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Saleslogix a plus.
– A goal-oriented team player, who cares as much about how something gets done as what gets done.
