This is a strange or heartening move, depending on your point of view: in UK, the National Union of Journalists has gained official recognition at AOL UK last week. Recognition at the ISP and portal firm marks the first time this has happened for the NUJ in a standalone new media company.
AOL denied it would have much impact on how the company was run, but it had wanted its staff to be able to vote on the issue.
The Union is now looking to expandm but is expecting to face stiff opposition from companies such as Yahoo, MSN and Wanadoo.
