Amp’ds Chief Marketing Officer Don McGuire gave a demonstration at the BREW conference on the new service it plans to launch “before Christmas”, which is a little bit later than the “third quarter” which was initially mooted. A couple of interesting quotes:
“Do people really want to download 3-minute clips of mobisodes and music?,” McGuire asked. “Can the wireless industry really compete with media, music and games devices? Wireless veterans are not entertainment programmers. We have to think from an entertainment industry perspective.”
“The MVNO also will offer push-to-talk, allowing people to buy content and share it with friends and will have a variety of pricing models. It has developed its own content ratings system that includes All Audiences, General Content, Mature Content and Adult Only ratings.”
I’m not sure of the wisdom in creating their own content rating system when the industry has put one out, but using push-to-talk to share content sounds interesting…
