A deal like this makes a lot of sense in a market like Korea: Major League Baseball has tied up with Korean mobile TV provider TU Media (which launched its mobile TV streaming service last month) to broadcast games of Korean major leaguer Chanho Park, live through satellite digital multimedia broadcasting.
Park is a pitcher for Texas Rangers, and originally hails from Korea. TU Media will not only broadcast live the games but also provide rerun and game highlights.
In a related story, TU has started charging for these mobile TV broadcasts, after first month of free trials…the service costs W13,000 (about US$13) a month plus a subscription fee of W20,000. An average of 1,500 people a day signed up for the new service since subscription started on May 1, with the total reaching 42,000 as of Monday.
