Inside Bay Area:
The name of the game in entertainment is “on demand” – the ability to enjoy what programming you want, when you want it, where you want it. And it’s coming soon to a television, computer or device of your choice.
Sling Media of San Mateo offers Slingbox, which sits on top of your TV and is hooked to an Internet connection. “We capture analog video from your TV on Slingbox and send it via Internet to any device you want, wherever you all are,” said Rich Buchanan, Sling Media vice president of marketing. Buchanan said he has watched Indian television several times over his cell phone streamed from the company’s Bangalore production facility.
“We want the experience of watching Slingbox remotely to be as close to watching TV in your living room as possible. So we’ve eliminated the buffering,” he said, referring to the viewer’s experience of waiting for a download to occur.
The box costs $249
