Chrysalis Radio station Galaxy is steadily working towards “the holy grail of letting customers text in to download to their mobile, or online, the full-track of songs heard on-air”. The benefit is that customers don’t have to go browsing for content they are directed towards it by the radio station…there is an immediacy involved which allows impulse buys.
The station is starting out by “launching an on-air promotion, in association with Motorola, to find its listeners’ top five all-time favourite tracks, voted for by SMS. The top five will then be made available as full-track mobile downloads”. This will lead to the portal providing full-track downloads in association with record labels around specific artist promotions before progressing to the “holy grail”.
