Apple has launched the iTunes Affiliate Programme in the UK and Ireland, making a total of 17 Eurpoean countries offering the affiliate option. The U.S. version launched last fall. Affiliates get four percent commission (5 percent in the U.S.) on qualifying revenue generated by links to iTunes on their web sites and in email. They have access to Apple marketing materials, an affiliates’ newsletter and an Apple Store affiliate program. Apple is partnering with TradeDoubler for the technological end.
Add this to the list of models New York Times execs probably will be looking at as they devise an affiliate program for TimesSelect.
In Europe, it has introduced a credit-card free system: The new payment option uses Firstgate’s Click & Buy system. This system allows users to register for the service, and then pay for their online transactions securely using Firstgate’s service — meaning they don’t need to use their credit card.
