SmallTownPapers, founded by Seattle businessman Paul Jeffko, currently digitizes the print versions of three dozen small papers. The service, free to publishers, produces searchable digital versions of the papers — including ads. The archives, created at no cost to the publisher, are being housed at the company’s web site; many of the publishers don’t have sites.
From a distance, this looks like an ad play getting ready to happen — or an idea for sale.
