Corporate Venture Investments In Digital Media

Venture arms of tech giants such as Cisco, Intel and Samsung are once again placing bets on digital entertainment companies: Intel Capital has a $200 million “digital home” fund. Since its inception, the digital home fund has announced 14 investments, from Osaka to Jerusalem.

Motorola Ventures has a $350 million portfolio — much of it invested in digital entertainment companies. Walt Disney and Hearst Media also have been sprinkling cash into such startups.

Disney’s VC arm, Burbank-based Steamboat Ventures, has invested in micropayments startup BitPass. Hearst recently made an investment in Sling Media.
