This is a press release kind of report. So don’t know how good is going to be the service. Still, read on.
Wireless connectivity has just got easier for code division multiple access (CDMA) users with the Reliance Sierra wireless AirCard. The card allows users to wirelessly connect a laptop or PDA directly to the internet, intranet, corporate email or a host of other corporate applications – without the need for a wireless phone or landline connection.
The card functions as a wireless modem, mobile phone and landline phone. A user can even send and receive SMS (short messages) and voice calls. Connecting to the internet is simple. Just insert the card into the computer’s card slot, and you are online. There is no dialing or change in configuration needed. The card costs Rs 14,700 ($326) and has two rental options – Rs 650 ($14.5) and Rs 1,500 ($33.3) per month.
Also read another Reliance news item which says that Reliance Infocomm would provide voice and internet connectivity to 399 towns and about 9700 villages in Andhra Pradesh (a southern Indian state) in its effort to revolutionise wireless internet access throughout the state. The company would extend the connectivity to a total of 550 towns and 17,000 villages in phases, R Balachandran, Chief Executive Officer, AP circle and Pankaj Rajpal, Business Head-Data Products, Wireless Group, told reporters on Friday.
