@ SIIA Content Forum: Who’s Paying Who and How?

siia6.jpgThe panel at SIIA Content Forum: what content and business models will drive revenue for publishers now and in the future. Mainly from a B2B perspective:

Bruce Antelman, President, Reviews.com: The cons of subscription model is that it is very hard to get money out of libraries..it is like getting into a co-op in New York City…someone has to die for anyone else to move in.

The important thing is trying to find synergy with blogs: for example, someone like HighBeam. It probably won’t make a lot of money now, but down the line it will bring in a lot of new people.

Larry Schwartz, President, Newstex: We have licensed about 45 top financial blogs into our system, and we get full feeds from them and they get a royalty out of it.

Corilee Christou, VP, Online & New Media Licensing, & Development, Reed Business Information: It is important for vertical search engines to be integrated within the work flow…that is why Google-competition can be overcome.

Ultimately we are putting too much emphasis on search, when there should be more emphasis on search applications…

Scott Virkler, VP, Biz Dev, globalSpec: Are search engines disruptive? No, the users are…they are in control. We are just leveraging it.
