NYTCO Will Reduce Staff By Nearly 2 Percent; No Cuts At Digital

Updated:The New York Times Company is reducing its staff by nearly 2 percent; the cuts, slated to be finalized in August, affect 130 positions at the Times and 60 at the New England Media Group. Times spokesman Toby Usnik told me there are no planned cuts at Boston.com or NY Times Digital.
The company is targeting nearly two dozen exempt and non-exempt positions in the Times newsroom through voluntary reductions; the Globe will eliminate three vacant positions.
Says Usnik, “We’re continuing to grow in certain parts of our business. This is about streamlining our operations and lowering costs.”
NYTCO reported 12,300 employees as of Dec. 31, 2004, down from 12,400 in 2004.
