From auctions to wine to p2p music, court cases are changing the way business is done online. Meanwhile, more cases are awaiting rulings at every level, including the U.S. Supreme Court, which is expected to rule on the legality of p2p music before the 2004-5 session ends. S&P analyst Scott Kessler writes, “I’ve been covering Internet stocks for more than five years and cannot remember a time when legal disputes and resolutions were having a greater impact on the industry and its companies.” He adds, “Today’s competition is taking place in the marketplace and in courtrooms.”
