Among the six winners who will receive their Golden Nica statuettes during the Ars Electronica Festival in September in Linz, Upper Austria, is an Indian development project dubbed Akshaya. The project, an initiative by Kerala government, which established 6,000 Internet centers in villages across the state of Kerala, won the prize in the Digital Communities category. It’s also believed to have brought 50,000 jobs to the southern Indian state.
