Built on a blogging foundation, podcasting is catching on publicly much faster than blogs did intially. It took years for most major media companies to acknowledge blogging or to try it. Now here Business Week not only introduced its own podcast this week, the magazine continues its march on technology with an entire podcasting special report. It’s a good primer for novices to the growing genre, with some tidbits for those already in the know. (One note: the listener can be a podcaster but listening is not podcasting.)
The package includes a piece on Odeo featuring co-founder Evan Williams. The much-discussed (but so far invisible to all but a few beta testers service) will trial publicly next months. Williams says the business model, based on a mix of fees and percent of ad revenue, needs tweaking and they will wait for pricing until they see how it is used.
