Artificial Life has signed a deal with Taiwan Mobile to jointly launch a Chinese-language version of Vivienne, the Virtual Girlfriend. The language shouldn’t have been an issue — Vivienne already speaks six different ones. Taiwan Mobile will also launch the new Artificial Life 3G products “Virtual Disco” and a Virtual News Reporter Service, which I haven’t come across before.
Virtual Disco allows people to “select an animated 3-D character (avatar) as his or her virtual persona and visit the different music rooms in the virtual disco. Music is offered for download or streaming in combination with high quality 3-D animation clips showing synchronized dancing avatars”. From the description I’m not sure whether the point is to go dancing in the disco or listen to the music, with the avatars just being a cool way to do it.
I found even less information on the Virtual News Reporter service aside from the fact it exists and has apparently already been rolled out with several telcos in Europe and Asia. These two products make sense as extensions of the technology Artificial Life developed to create V-Girl.
