Pulse and m-Qube have signed a strategic partnership for m-Qube to offer Pulse’s virtual personality software (Veepers) to its clients. Pulse specializes in personalizing video ringtones, wallpapers and other mobile content. Personalized personalization, if you like, and of course personalization has been one of the strongest drivers of sales of mobile content. Pulse will provide integrated technology alongside m-Qubes technical solutions.
“Pulse Veepers technology provides our content provider partners with lifelike and engaging virtual characters to deliver a personalized and compelling experience for mobile subscribers,” said Andrew Miller, Senior Vice President of m-Qube. As an example, the wallpaper offering is called ImageText, which will be first offered by Canada’s Telus Mobility. “You can select from a series of interesting and generic backgrounds, type in text and have it woven into the image,” said Brian Lipschultz, President and CEO of Pulse Entertainment in an interview. So you can type in your name and have it appear on a street sign, or type in a message and have it appear on the back of a beautiful woman…or I suppose a sailor. The idea is that its not just text overlaid on an image but as part of the image. All the manipulation is done on a server, so if you want to write different words you have to buy multiple images. Funmail announced something similar last week with the relaunch of its Wallpaper Universe portal.
“The intention with m-Qube is that they’re meant to be context intelligent,” said Lipschultz. For example, m-Qube recently signed a deal with Major League Baseball, and with this deal they could offer personalized versions of baseball jersies. m-Qube, which helps companies develop and market mobile content, will take charge of all the content and plan to offer all of Pulse’s services to their customers.
Both companies “mutually believe that you can never really stop innovating in mobile content”, according to Lipschultz, and m-Qube will roll out a series of Veepers MMS applications while Pulse foreshadowed an announcement concerning its personalized news service in 4-6 weeks.
Some more on Pulse’s business is here…my favorite quote: “Nobody really thinks of voicemail as entertainment but 5-6 years ago nobody thought of ringtones as entertainment.”
