Big Brother UK Launches Mobile Portal

Big Brother UKBig Brother UK is launching a mobile portal for the sixth series of Big Brother which will include “real-time updates of news, editorial commentary, video streaming, ringtones, images, games, quizzes, competitions and voting capabilities.” The portal is created by Volantis and will be available to anyone with mobile internet access.
This follows the successful launch of a Big Brother mobile portal in Australia, which is apparently very ‘sticky’. This is an appropriate word — one of the games they have is Pig Bucket, which is described thusly: “The BB House has seen some very dirty housemates in the past. Play Big Brother’s Pig Bucket game to see how you would cope with a truly filthy houseguest. Catch falling poo to score points. Missing poo deducts points and it piles up beneath you. Just don’t let your bucket get smashed by the falling pig!” It’s got a comparitive score chart, and some people have spent five times as much SMSing their scores than buying the game…which is the sort of thing operators like to hear.
An interesting thing on the Australian portal that wasn’t in the UK release (unless it fell under ‘editorial commentary’) is Mike’s mBlog. This is a moblog of Mike Goldman, a Big Brother host. This is run by content from the audience, those people who didn’t make it onto Big Brother…”Take a picture with your camera phone, Send it as an MMS to 0423 772 313. Remember to add text (or the BB challenge keyword)…mBlogs cost $1 each. (Carrier charges not included)” The moblogs viewed by the most people get featured in a Top 12 list…the whole thing is a nice little money earner.
