MTNL To Launch Wi-Fi Services In Mumbai

The Economic Times: State-owned telecom service provider Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL), which operates only in two metro cities – Delhi and Mumbai, is planning to introduce Wi-Fi services in 50 locations in Mumbai.
“We are in dialogue with airports, hotel, clubs for rolling out Wi-Fi service in Mumbai at the initial phase. We will soon launch this in 15 five star hotels and 20 four star hotels in the city,” MTNL Executive Director Kuldeep Goyal told PTI here on Tuesday. Goyal said MTNL has necessary equipments to install Wi-Fi services for accessing internet without the help of cables and it would roll out in 50 different locations at the end of this financial year.
“We are aiming at meeting customers’ requirements rather than taking financial leverage out of it,” he said. He said MTNL has received licence from two airports for Wi-Fi services though some commercial issues are yet to be sorted out. It has already secured contract from various clubs in the city, Goyal said.
