Jeff Jarvis To Leave Conde Nast; Work on About.com, Startup, Among Others

Jeff Jarvis, the uber-blogger and the president of Advance.net (part of Conde Nast) is finally leaving the company and is, among other things, going to work on content development at About.com, and be part of an as-yet stealth citizen media venture…He writes in detail about his move on his own blog.

As he writes in his blog, and he explained it to me at a private event we both attended earlier today, “About.com can be a platform for distributed media and I’m eager to explore all the great things that will come of that. But first, I’m looking forward to working with the amazing army of About guides, who have created a great resource of content and service online.” His role is not completely defined yet, but the fact that NYT is open to such a loosely defined and yet entrepreneurial role for Jeff is instructive in itself…

Also, he is working on a new news start-up founded by Upendra Shardanand (ex Firefly, Microsoft Passport, AOL, and Time Warner), which is a bit under wraps for now…

He’s also going to work on the new media curriculum for the new City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism, collaborating on it with Dean Steven Shepard (former editor-in-chief of Business Week), Merrill Brown, Judy Watson of CUNY…
