RealNetworks has a deal for Rhapsody to be the “preferred” music manager of palmOne’s new LifeDrive device. What’s caught my attention is the part of the deal that will let LifeDrive users access Rhapsody Unlimited (there’s a 30-day fre trial)– and, in the next few months, give them Rhapsody To Go, something currently denied to PDA users. The LifeDrive mobile manager has a 4G drive, built-in WiFi and Bluetooth. It’s the first “converged” device that will carry Rhapsody, and possibly the first that will make use of Microsoft’s Janus codec for DRM.
LifeDrive will use a new application from NormSoft, Pocket Tunes Deluxe, to allow purchases from Rhapsody’s store and compatibility with the protable service.
