The Asian Age: The Indian music market in terms of sales is as large as Korea, making it the third largest globally after Japan and Australia. With six million Internet subscribers currently, projected to grow to 18 million by 2007, the potential of digital music in India is immense. Broadband users are currently pegged at three million and are projected to grow to nine million by 2007. The government has allotted an estimated $600 million for broadband connectivity and open skies policy for DTH, VSAT and uplinking using satellites.
Mobile subscribers in India have touched the 100 million mark – opening another avenue for legitimate digital download of music. Downloaded content currently comprises 80 per cent monotones, five per cent polytones, 0.5 per cent truetones and 14.5 per cent wallpapers
