Did Jamster Kill Ringtones?

In article about the ringtone market in Australia falling due to saturation and new MP3 player phones, the real gems are towards the bottom…”Some in the industry blame Jamster for putting younger mobile phone users – now facing monthly bills – off ringtones… “They have knocked the stuffing out of the market,” said one music industry executive.”
Not everyone agrees that consumption is flagging, with the head of mobile content group BlueSky Frog, Steve Watson, stating:”The market’s flying. We see plenty of opportunity for growth.” Because only 30 per cent of consumers had phones capable of downloading polyphonic tones he predicted that more people would take up the services.
Indeed, saying the ringtone market is on the wane because monophonic and polyphonic ringtones are giving way to truetones and MP3s is a bit silly — as long as mobile make a sound to alert of an incoming call there will be a ringtone market.
