The Economic Times:
India, or at least its two big metros, is on the threshold of a broadband revolution. Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL), the state-owned telco which operates in Delhi and Mumbai circles only, plans to offer unlimited surfing for its broadband subscribers for free (read, no rental).
The new offer will be available from Tuesday. There will be no monthly rental and subscribers will only have to pay for the data they download. They will be charged Rs 2 (45 cents) per MB. The download speed is expected to be 256 kbps. Other operators like BSNL and Bharti Tele-Ventures are also expected to follow suit because of competitive pressures.
